I feel exactly the same way about cowboys and sooners- being stuck still here in Oklhellma. What are the sooners? When the government broke all their treaties with the indians and took the land that they had been forced to relocate too, they held a ‘landrun’ to give the land away to white settelers. sooners are the people who went out the night before and staked claims ‘sooner’ than anyone else. So please add cowboys/sooners to the list of ninjas(who were dishonorable assains), vampires(cursed undead),pirates(thieves, murderers and rapists) we should probably add vikings to pirates since they are about the same thing but a few centuries earlier and with no guns.what does this really say about our society that these are considered iconic even heroic charcters? This is not what I recall the definition of hero being.

I am tired of pirates,vampires, and ninjas being this hip “zany” “whacky” go to concept. Does that make sense? No I have never attended a pirate festival. I don’t really understand the idea. “Lets take this concept of a culture of terrible humans that used to steal and do terrible things to others, and make it into a festival”. Sweet man, pirates are awesome!!! Talk like a pirate day? I want to punch you in the mouth day. Sorry I can’t explain it better.

I’m curious about the “no more pirates” part — wasn’t there a pirate festival thing last fall? Is that connected to your wanting a break? Just curious; my stepson organizes pirate stuff. I’m not into it at all; last summer his troupe was at the county fair in Washington. We went to see them and I must say I was bored out of my mind.

Amen on the Juno thing. It needs a rest. I can also do without the baby talk indie music that apparently comes with the territory. It seems like most of these films are romantic comedies wearing hoodies as their disguise.

Have you seen Juno? It’s a really good movie. It’s one of my five favorite films of the year. What I don’t want to see for at least another 10 years, is another WWII movie. That’s played out.
